Leaders in the Field
The Equity Project is similar to the other employee ownership organisations in the beliefs that underpin employee share ownership and its impact on society, however it is markedly different in its wide-reaching approach by starting with a lower target of 25% ownership instead of a “significant and meaningful stake in the company” – yet the more the better.
There are some important organisations within the employee ownership and re-thinking business sector:
Employee ownership association
The EOA is a non-for-profit and politically independent organisation that represents organisations which are employee owned or transitioning to employee ownership across the UK and is the main organisation in the employee ownership movement in the UK. In 2018 they launched the Ownership Effect Inquiry that is a leading piece of evidence to support employee ownership.
The Employee Share Ownership Centre
The ESOP Centre is a non‐profit subscription‐based organisation which draws from over 25 years of experience to inform, lobby and research in the interest of developing all forms of broad‐based employee share ownership plans in the UK and Europe. The Centre hosted the Worked Examples Group with the HMRC to produce a worked example of employee share schemes in Healthcare in July 2018.
Pro Share
Established by the British Govt, London Stock Exchange and number of FTSE 100 companies in 1992 to promote employee share ownership, today ProShare has more than 100 members and is a not-for-profit organization. Their purpose is to ensure a level playing field exists for all involved in employee share plans.
The role of ifs ProShare is to liaise with and lobby HM Revenue & Customs, HM Treasury, the FCA and other industry bodies on the legal, regulatory and fiscal environment for employee share ownership.
Corporation steering group
The Steering Group for the Future of the Corporation provides advice and guidance on the development and implementation of the project. It is comprised of Fellows of the British Academy and other members with relevant experience.
The Future of the Corporation is a major research and public engagement programme aiming to develop an evidence base that will serve as a foundation to redefine business for the 21st century and build trust between business and society.

B Lab UK is a UK registered charity, which exists to support a community of UK-based B Corps. It serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good. B Lab’s goal is to accelerate the culture shift to harness the power of business to help address society’s greatest challenges. Through their network of global partner organisations and interrelated initiatives, B Lab works to create viable alternatives to an economic system that is failing to create the solutions for global problemssuch as climate change, wealth inequality and social unrest.
The Eaga Trust
The eaga Trust was set up 1999 for the purpose of promoting employee well-being, engagement and ownership in the workplace in the belief that when employees feel like partners in their business, they deliver better day to day results which in turn produce a profitable, sustainable and fulfilling business to the benefit of all.
A blueprint for better business
An independent charity that helps business to be inspired and guided by a purpose that respects people and contributes to a better society. They have 5 principles for a purpose driven business as a call to action. They are targeting senior people in large companies to maximise their impact. They hold forums and events for all stakeholders to change the conversation about the purpose of business
RSA
The RSA believes that our significant social and environmental challenges can be solved by the application of creativity and enterprise. They advocate economic democracy through greater democratic ownership.
Their Citizens Economic Council programme aims to showcase how deliberative democracy can improve the substance and style of political debate about the economy.
